Modular Filtration Systems

The Modular Filtration Systems (MFS) consist of portable HEPA filtration unit(s) designed to filter clean room air to eliminate working level contamination. The design is generic to allow use of single or multiple units. MFS consist of HEPA supply units, return fan units (either HEPA or non-HEPA), and full side ESD walls. As the unit is filtering clean air within a clean room, a standard ISO 8 (Class 100,000) area will be maintained under ISO 7 (Class 10,000). The primary objective is to achieve a continuous laminar flow velocity of 90 +/- 30 ft./min. throughout the entire space to keep particles in motion across the zone and particle population below ISO 7 (Class 10,000) for activity. The Astrotech Space Operations design achieves this objective with full open ceiling access and allows for a modular design to adapt to changing requirements and equipment placement. Side wall design is dependent on specific customer requirements or personnel entry points.

  • Each single unit is capable of filtering 12,000 CFM. The setting for one unit equates to four additional room exchanges per hour for a standard 40 ft. x 60 ft. x 50 ft. highbay.
  • Unit HEPA face velocity is adjustable from 60 ft./min. to 240 ft./min.
  • At 90 ft./min. the air remains laminar up to 18 feet.
  • Unit design allows for side by side or stacked operation.
  • Single units can be moved via crane or standard pallet jack.
  • Modular design allows for pre-planned partial disassembly or removal of side walls.
  • Units are stackable and can be bolted together to form a quad (four units).  The access tunnels are spaced to allow movement of a 16 ft. W x 20 ft. H quad via forklift or two pallet jacks from one area to another without disassembly.
  • The access tunnel also allows position of electrical power, data, and network cables into the laminar space from either end. A metal front cover is available to cover the tunnel access areas if desired.
  • An electrical spider box has been designed to allow connection of up to four single units to operate from a single 480 V, 30 A receptacle.
  • No hydrocarbons, oil, or silicon. Low out gassing materials.
  • ESD clear film is used in side wall fabrication to allow visible access.
  • Noise level low.
